PRESSURE is mounting on defending champions, Zesco United, who have gone seven games without a win, the first time they have had to go on such a long winless streak since 2006.

The champions’ defeat by Mufulira Wanderers condemned the Ndola-based side to its first loss, from the 5 games played so far, having drawn two games and winning two, with the last win against Nakambala Leopards early February.

The goals from Mufulira Wanderers’ Humphrey Masaneko and Brian Chewe were enough to relegate Zesco to 4th place with 8 points while Mufulira Wanderers climbed to 5th place with 8 points.

Zesco will now be looking for a consolation in Sunday’s rubber formality game against Asente Kotoko who need nothing but a win to progress to the quarter finals of the Confederations Cup.

Asante Kotoko, which beat Zesco 2-1 in the first league game in Ghana, will be looking to complete a double if it should have any realistic chances of progressing but is facing a side that has to leave the competition on a high note, having had to go on a 7 game winless streak, both in the domestic and continental competitions.
