A MAN accused of incest says the woman he is alleged to have had sex with is in fact his wife and not his sister.

Alivad Mumba, 36, said this yesterday when he and Miriam Hara, 22, appeared before Lusaka Magistrate Faides Hamaundu appeared for plea.

In the first count Mumba is charged with incest for allegedly having slept with Hara whom he knew was his sister.

In the second count Hara is charged with the same offence for allegedly having had sex with Mumba whom she knew was her brother.

Asked by the court if he understood the charge, Mumba said he did but insisted Hara is his wife and not his sister.

He later denied the charge and Hara equally pleaded not guilty.

The court has since set April 1, for commencement of trial.

They are said to have sired some children together.

Mumba and Hara reportedly met at Chongwe District Hospital where they were both admitted for respective leg problems.

They started communicating before moving in as husband and wife.

Later Hara travelled Lusaka to visit her mother in Meanwood residential area and after some time, Mumba decided to also visit his mother in Lusaka and ended up meeting in the same house.
