FINALLY it is here. That Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya has confirmed five cholera cases in Lusaka could herald the beginning of the repeat story of the epidemic that normally takes lives of the people.

Dr. Chilufya said the five cases were recorded in Kabanana Chipata compound, SOS and Garden Chilulu compounds.

The Minister said of the five cases, four were confirmed laboratory cases while one was a suspected case in Mtendere compound.

But still street vendors cannot make sense out of this yet they are the main culprits in contributing to the emergence of the disease because of their huge contribution to the filth in the town.

They also forget that it is them who are most vulnerable to cholera attacks because of the squalor surroundings they live and conduct their businesses in.

Please can the armed forces move in quickly before the disease begins to claims lives since we do not seem to learn lessons from past experiences.

Truly speaking, even 5 cases is too big a number as we all know how fast that disease can spread because for every one case reported there are probably 20 unreported cases.

So all those concerned with the disease should be on it as the time we normally have outbreaks is always towards the end of the rainy season in March which is almost upon us.

Let us not have another disaster which we always fail to learn from; drainages are still blocked in many cities, look at Kitwe’s Chisokone market that place is a disaster, look at Ndola Main Masala, in Lusaka Chainda, Chaisa, Mandevu as well as Kanyama, Kamwala, John Laing, Chawama and Linda areas. Cholera is bad news for the nation, let us fight it together.
