RESIDENTS of Chirundu’s Kanyenze village are living in fear and afraid of moving around because of a wounded elephant spotted in the area.
Leonard Mweemba, a resident of Kanyenze village told The Sun in an interview that locals were living in fear because of the wounded elephant and have appealed to the Nationak Parks and Wildlife Authority to secure the animal.
Mr. Mweemba said from the look of things for the past three days the said lone elephant has been destroying a lot of crops in peoples’ farms and now residents are afraid that it might kill someone in the area.
He said that sad to see how peoples’ crops are being destroyed by the elephant after spending a lot of money and time.
Most people in the village, he said, were afraid of going to their farms and children are also afraid of going to school for fear of being attacked by the elephant.
He said people of Kanyenze village depend on farming for all their necessities in order to have a better life.
