In Africa, borders are open to refugees, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres thinks African nations are setting an example of solidarity for richer countries when it comes to the treatment of refugees.
While most European countries impose restrictions on the influx of refugees, in Africa most borders are open to foreigners seeking shelter for war and prosecution, according to UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
The UN chief praised African nations for being in the leadership when it comes to addressing migration flows.
According to Mr. Guterres, the African continent is setting an example of solidarity for richer countries when it comes to the treatment of refugees, since migration has been dealt with in a much more humane way in Africa.
To support that analysis, Mr. Guterres, pointed to the fact that there are more African migrants in other African countries than in Europe.
According to statistics from UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), published by an official UN website, Sub-Saharan Africa hosts more than 26 per cent of the worlds refugee population.
Mr. Guterres, who was formerly the UNs High Commissioner for Refugees, appealed for the UNs global compacts on Migration and Refugees to be fully implemented.

18 million people in the region are of concern to UNHCR, with conflicts and ongoing crises in the Central African Republic (CAR), Nigeria and South Sudan, as well as Burundi and Yemen, driving large increases in the numbers of refugees and displaced people.
