VOTING in the Sesheke parliamentary by-election has started on good note with many polling stations witnessing ‘reasonable’ long queues of voters

And the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has maintained that results will only be announced on Wednesday February 13.
Returning Officer Joseph Kanyemba confirmed to the Daily Nation this morning that it would be so because there were polling stations that could only be serviced by the Zambia Air Force (ZAF) to transport the results from polling stations to the Totalling Centre.
Mr. Kanyemba said further said that as of 08:30 hours Tuesday, February 12, the district had not received any incident of any kind.
“So far voting is going on well, there is no incident so far. We have 43 polling stations with a total of 27, 872,” he said.
Meanwhile, police fired teargas and gunshots while seen pursuing suspected people who wanted to cause confusion at Welfare Polling Station.
One person was seen being dragged to the direction of the police station after being cornered near the entrance to one of the lodges while some were also seen scampering in different directions with pangas.
No police statement has been given to explain what could have caused the firing of teargas and gunshots.
