A ward councillor in Serenje District has advised school leavers to refrain from illicit sex and abusing drugs.

Mailo Ward Councillor, Mr Patrick Munshya, observed that there is need for the youth to engage in more profitable ventures rather than in drugs and sex.

Mr. Munshya told The Sun in an interview yesterday that young people should instead try and reflect on their future and on how they could contribute to the development of society.

He urged the youths to be wary of the devastating effects of HIV and AIDS too.

“You need to have role models. People that have excelled in society to inspire you so that you also aspire to be like them in future,” Mr Munsha said.

He added that, “The youth are the future leaders. They need successful people to inspire them as they prepare for leadership transition.”

The civic leader also appealed to the church and opinion leaders to work with the youth to “prepare them for the world” after completing their secondary school education.
