A STUDENT has been put on his defence for allegedly causing a road accident in which a teacher lost a leg.
Mirphin Tembo, 22, of house number 39 Emmasdale police camp, was found with a case to answer yesterday by Lusaka Magistrate Austin Mubita for allegedly causing the accident, which resulted in the teacher Paul Njovu, 27, having his right leg amputated.
Tembo has been charged with dangerous driving and failling to report an accident, as well as failure to help an accident victim, and being unlicensed driver.
When the case came up for ruling yesterday, Mr. Mubita said: “After a thorough consideration of the defence’s submissions and evidence before court, I am satisfied that a prima facie has been established against the accused person warranting him to be put on his defence.”
The case has been adjourned to February 21, 2019 for commencement of defence.
