Actress Mutale dies

THE Zambian entertainment world has suffered a huge blow following the death of one of most dedicated actresses Mutale Macholowe.

Mutale who has played a huge role in both local theatre and film industry died yesterday morning in Lusaka after an illness.

Mutale was famously known as Masozi, a lead cast in the Zambian series ‘ Fever’.

She also played a key role in the Abdon Yezi theatre project ‘ Demolishing Democracy’.

 The news of her death yesterday came as a big shock to many as she was, not to long ago, involved in the preparations of the ‘ Queens of Comedy’ event planned for next month.

“Mutale, the news of your demise is heartbreaking. Farewell. What a rich talent gone under. Very difficult to find words that express the heartbreak.

This was the last project we worked on together. MYSRIEP. We “Demolished Democracy” but today you are gone. Oh, what a professional secretary to the President in the Presidents Job The Presidents Job Description,” read Abdon Yezi’s tribute to Mutale.

Filmmaker Becky Ngoma has described Mutale as a person with great talent.

“ It was a pleasure directing you in ‘Fever’, so brilliant in your acting and here we are speaking of you in past terms right at the peak of your career, gone so young ..ala you’ve left a gap. I was looking forward to see your next role in ‘Turn of Fortunes’

“Kwena this is sad …just so sad …you ran your race, you graced our stage and our screens with perfection. Rest in peace,” Becky says on her Facebook page.

Meanwhile Comedy Association of Zambia president Chibwe Katebe said his association is at a loss and would wish to stage the ‘Queens of Comedy’ in her honor.

Details of funeral arrangements were not ready by press time.
