US keen to promote Agric sector – Harris

THE United States (US) is keen to highlight innovation in the agricultural sector and to promote smart farming, US Vice-President,  Kamala Harris has said.

Ms Harris said the US was trying to work with African leaders, philanthropists and corporations to bring resources to uplift such kind of corporations.

She said the work with the private sector would support climate resilience by adopting climate smart farming.

“The US will support and expand this work on the continent and we are going to build new weather stations to help farmers,” Ms Harris  said.

She said the US would continue supporting  the development of  the agricultural sector  by helping to improve climate modeling, weather forecasts and building new weather stations.

She said this would help farmers to plan properly as they would be able to predict eventualities like calamities.

Speaking  when she visited  Panuka farm in Chisamba yesterday, Ms Harris  said that there was need to adopt innovation in the agriculture system.
