President Hichilema assures of govts support to flood victims

President Hakainde Hichilema has assured residents of Lusangazi district in Eastern Province of the government’s commitment to alleviate problems arising from the flooding situation in the district.

President Hichilema says the government will take a holistic approach to alleviating the challenges and also ensure bridges are designed better.

“The damage through floods is huge. We will take a holistic approach to alleviate these challenges,” the President said.

The President was speaking in Lusangazi yesterday when he paid a courtesy call on Chief Nyamphande.

The Head of State has also commended the traditional leadership in the district for taking keen interest in the utilisation of the Constituency Development Funds.

Mr Hichilema explained that the government appreciates the strong leadership of traditional leaders in contributing to the implementation of the decentralised development funds.

He also commended stakeholders in the district for prioritising the health and education sectors.

“I am happy that health and education are being prioritised in the utilisation of CDF. These are key sectors,” he noted. Meanwhile Chief Nyamphande Chief Nyamphande said he is closely working with the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment to address some of the environmental challenges in his chiefdom. – ZANIS
