Chipangali District Commissioner Paul Sakala has advised teachers in the district to support the education policy of the new dawn government.
Mr Sakala urged teachers to support the education policy for it to be successfully implemented.
He said the community in Chipangali have welcomed the free education policy and urged teachers to support it as well.
The district Commissioner was speaking in the wake of concerns raised over the district’s poor results obtained at grades seven and nine examinations for 2021.
Mr Sakala said when government makes plans, technocrats need to support for effective implementation as well as for the benefit of citizens.
He said President Hakainde Hichilema needs support from all stakeholders to realise his dream for free education.
“Government can plan but needs officers to effectively implement the plans so that citizens benefit. The President attaches great importance to education and he needs your support for him to realise his dream,” Mr Sakala said.
Mr Sakala further expressed displeasure over the poor performance of grades 9 and 7 examination in which the district is ranked 11th and 12th position, respectively in the province.
He challenged school managers to closely monitor teachers so that they perform better during teaching to ensure pupils also do better during examinations.
Mr Sakala said he had received reports of some teachers that have gone to the extents of drinking beer whilst on duty and insult members of the community including traditional leaders.
He noted that the poor performance of the district at Grades 7 and 9 examinations last year could be attributed to heavy drinking of beer by some teachers at the expense of teaching.-ZANIS
