GEWEL empowers community based volunteers in Mwansabombwe
The Department of Community Development in Mwansabombwe District has empowered 19 Community Based Volunteers (CBVs) with bicycles under the Girls Education Women Empowerment Livelihood (GEWEL) Supporting Women’s livelihood project.
District Community Development Officer Elizabeth Musesa said the nineteen CBVs underwent a ten-day training in life and sexual reproductive health, financial and business management skills.
Ms Musesa said the bicycles are meant to ease their movements as they go to train others in their respective communities.
She said the Supporting Women’s livelihood phase four targeted beneficiaries coming from social cash transfer households and that the district has a caseload of 396 beneficiaries.
And speaking after he handed over the bicycles to the beneficiaries, District Commissioner Morton Sikazwe said government is determined to improving the welfare of the women.
Mr. Sikazwe has since thanked the partners for the financial support aimed at improving the living standards of the women folk in the communities.
The District Commissioner appealed to the beneficiaries to use the bicycles for the intended purposes so that others can benefit from the programme.
And one of the trained CBV Hellen Mumba thanked government and its partners for the training and bicycle and assured to use the knowledge acquired to teach others in the communities.
