UPND members implored to re-unite Zambia

United Party for National Development (UPND) national women’s chairperson, Doreen Mwamba, has called on all ruling party members to re-unite and re-build the nation that was allegedly divided by politics of violence.

Ms. Mwamba, who is also Minister of Community Development and Social Services, said politics of violence went with the previous regime.

She said UPND members should therefore embrace people from other political parties as their party is known for love and unity.

“Politics of fighting are long gone therefore, embrace everyone even people from other political parties,” Ms. Mwamba said.

She said this during the church funeral procession of late Solwezi central constituency chairlady, Joyce Nkonde at Bethel Evangelical Church in Solwezi yesterday.

Ms. Mwamba also called on the members of the party to emulate the spirit of the late Ms. Nkonde who tirelessly worked for the party and for the betterment of the nation without expecting anything in return.

And North-western Province Minister, Robert Lihefu has expressed gratitude to President Hakainde Hichilema for attaching great importance to the funeral of one of the founding members of UPND.

“Sending a government representative to come and mourn with the people of Solwezi shows the love that the President has for the people,” Mr. Lihefu said.

He described the late Ms. Nkonde as a freedom fighter who did not only fight for the party but the nation at large.

Meanwhile, Government Chief Whip Stafford Mulusa, who is also Solwezi central Member of Parliament, assured the family of the late Ms. Nkonde of continued support from the party.

The late Ms. Nkonde, who was 72 years old, died on December 19, 2021 after a short illness.
