Sustain ban on roadblocks, government told

THE government should ensure that the ban on roadblocks is sustained, Green Party president Peter Sinkamba has said.

Mr Sinkamba said the new administration should ensure that traffic police do not mount road blocks, which had proved inconveniencing not only to motorists but to other members of the public as well.

He was speaking in an interview with the Daily Nation in Kitwe yesterday.

Home Affairs Minister, Jack Mwiimbu, at the weekend announced the ban of traffic police roadblocks.

Mr Mwiimbu said only security check points would be allowed.

Mr Sinkamba said in previous government this had failed and appealed to the new administration to ensure that the ban was maintained

“We should see this go further from what we have been seeing in previous governments so that we see how it works.

“We are also yet to see how the current government will implement the programme while the police service contributes what it is supposed to contribute towards the Ministry of Finance budget,” he said.
