Nine suspects nabbed over Kungo murder

NINE suspects have been arrested in Solwezi in connection with the killing of Patriotic Front (PF) North western province chairperson Jackson Kungo.

During the same operation, three suspects were picked up for alleged assault of Charles Chitengi and four others in the case of malicious damage to property.

Mr Kungo was killed on August 12 this year in cold blood after being suspected of being in possession of pre-marked ballot papers at Kyawama polling station in Solwezi

According to the outgoing North-western province Commissioner of police, Joe Njase, the suspects were picked during an identification parade.

He identified the murder suspects a Joseph Pandwe, Kelvin Mofya, Wana Samakayi, Tobias Mutengo, John Mubanga, Wise Makanga, Moses Silwamba, Kalepa Lukeshi and ShadrickIlunga.

In the case of assault, Mr Njase identified the suspects as Edwin Kibinda, Tobias Mutengo and Kalepa Lukeshi.

“And in the case of malicious damage to property, the following suspects were identified namely; Kelvin Mofya, John Mubanga, Moses Silwamba and Tobias Mutengo,,” Mr Njase said.

He however indicated that on Mr Kalepa Lukeshi further scrutiny was being done concerning murder because information indicated that he was at work during late Kungo’s attack.

“Notwithstanding, police will follow all necessary procedures to verify and establish facts on the matter,” he said.
