Chililabombwe susceptible to Covid-19

Chililabombwe District Commissioner, Roy Ngosa says the border town remains susceptible to imported cases of Covid-19 due to unmonitored people that enter the country through the bush.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Chililabombwe today, Mr Ngosa said health officers are strictly monitoring those entering through the official border point in order to detect positive cases.

He has however stated that there is a drop in the number of new positive cases and patients admitted in health facilities.

“The cases are going down, today we have recorded three news cases bringing the active cases to 135,” Mr Ngosa said.

The Chililabombwe District Commissioner however bemoaned the lack of compliance among members of the public in terms of social distancing.

He noted that people were complying in terms of masking up, sanitizing and hand washing but were not observing social distancing.

He appealed to members of the public not to relent in observing Covid-19 preventive measures despite the dropping number of cases as the weather is getting warmer.

“We need not to drop our guard, COVID is still with us,” He stressed.

He further explained that markets, especially Kasumbalesa Market continue to stand out as most dangerous and difficult to control in efforts to control the spread of Covid-19 due to lack of social distancing in there.

Mr Ngosa, however, explained that officers from the Ministry of Health are on alert and going round checking compliance levels in trading areas.

He added that the health inspectors are also closing shops where there is no compliance to Covid-19 preventive measures.

Chililabombwe was among the Covid-19 highly affected towns in the country due to the influx of people passing in and out of the border point and trade activities between Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo. –  ZANIS
