Student gets 4 years for stealing

A 28 years old student of a named institution who went on rampage breaking into people’s houses and shops in an effort to raise school fees will toil for four  years in prison after the Choma Magistrates Court convicted him on 3 counts among them burglary and theft.

In these matters Charles Mbewe Daka stood charged with one count of Burglary and Theft and two counts of Breaking into a Building and Committing a Felony contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence in count one are that Daka between January 6 and January 7 in Choma stole 1 plasma television set, a mattress, 3 pairs of shoes, assorted clothes among other valuables all valued k 15, 100 the property of Simon Simbeye a Police Officer.

In count two, Daka on March 31 and April 1 broke into a Butchery Shop and stole 1 Fridge valued at K8, 650 the property of Serviness Hampongo.

And in the third count, Daka broke into Barbra’ Sichanza’s Shop on April 16 and 17 and stole assorted groceries valued at K18, 000.

When he was called to take plea by Public Prosecutor Ebby Kahale before Senior Resident Magistrate Peter Mungala, the accused person admitted all the three counts compelling the Court to enter pleas of guilty respectively.

According to the Facts, the accused person was apprehended whilst in possession of some of the loot and he further went on to demonstrate on how he carried out the break in’s.

Magistrate Mungala slapped him with 4 years in count 1 and 3, and 3 years in count 2. The sentences are all with hard labour and will run concurrently.
