OIL explorations in Northern Province should be expedited so that it can contribute to economic recovery and create jobs, says Northern Province Chamber of Commerce president John Zulu

Mr Zulu said Northern Chamber was concerned about the delay to complete oil exploration in the region.

He noted that oil was an important commodity that could help grow the country’s economy and create the much needed jobs.

The country’s economy, he said, had been drastically affected by Covid-19 and that there was need to use every available resource to grow the economy.

Mr Zulu said it was unfortunate that fuel explorations in the province that were launched years ago had not been concluded.

“Government engaged Tullow Oil to undertake exploration in the northern circuit but not much has been done in terms of updating the nation on where we are,” Mr Zulu said.

Mr Zulu said fuel and has readily available market and can be one of the major foreign exchange-earner alongside copper and gold.

“We appeal to Government to speed up oil exploration in this region because it can help grow the economy and solve most of the challenges,” Mr Zulu said.
