UNKNOWN people have exhumed a coffin and gone away with a body of a 65-year-old man who was buried on August 2, 2012 at Kawama Cemetery in Ndola, Copperbelt Province.
Ndola City Council (NCC) public relations manager, Rebecca Mushota who confirmed the incident said it happened at the weekend.
In a statement, Ms Mushota told the Sun that the council had recorded a case of exhumation at Kawama Cemetery.
She explained that a grave which was exhumed belonged to Frances M Kabwe.
Ms Mushota further said the grave was found open and the coffin and body was found missing.
“The grave was found open on Friday by Ndola City Council workers.
“Frances M Kabwe was born in 1953 and was buried on August 2, 2012,” Ms Mushota said.
She said the Council had engaged Chifubu Police Station and investigations were on-going.
She called on the deceased’s relatives to avail themselves to the Council so that they could be updated on the incident and the processes that would follow.
Ms Mushota said the council was dismayed at the uncultural and senseless crime that transpired at Kawama Cemetery and called on members of the public with any information on the matter to report to the local authority or the police.
