Covid-19 cases rise in L/stone

THE Covid-19 positive cases in Livingstone are on the rise, causing worry among Government officials.

Livingstone District Commissioner (DC), Pascalina Musokotwane, said that cases had continued to rise everyday and called for concerted efforts to plug the pandemic.
The DC said this when Commerce, Trade and Industry Permanent Secretary Mushuma Mulenga paid a courtesy call on her at her office.
Ms Musokotwane said that the situation was worrying and there was need for more efforts in the sensitisation exercise.
She said that from the updates given to her office by the District Medical Office, the cases were on the rise especially in densely populated townships.
“We are recommending high numbers of Covid-19 in terms of positive cases and the updates from the District Health Office shows that the numbers are on the increase.
“The Covid-19 has hit Livingstone badly, we don’t know whether it is the second wave or what…just two weeks ago we had to close Fairmount partially because about 28 workers tested positive,” she said.
The DC said however that a team that had arrived in Livingstone from Ministry of Health in Lusaka to reinforce the manpower in the tourist capital.
“The main thing we are doing is swabbing a lot of people more especially from the community that have a lot of people,” she said.
Ms Musokotwane said that Livingstone was the most vulnerable throughout the country because of ono-adherence to Covid-19 guidelines.
18 Churches empowered with Chickens
Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources Minister who is also Mandevu Member of Parliament Jean Kapata has empowered 18 different Churches from the 7 wards of Justine Kabwe in Mandevu Constituency with 50 Chickens.
Mrs Kapata said out of 250 churches that are in Mandevu Constituency 18 churches had been selected under the presidential empowerment initiative.
Mrs Kapata was speaking when she donated 50 chickens to 18 church groups in Mandevu constituency under the project called Pass it on to the next person.
“Each group will remain with the seed chicken for a period one year before it is passed on to other groups,” She said.
Mr Kapata pledged to continue empowering communities with various products in an effort to enhance people’s lives.
“In churches also we have people that look after people with various needs that need to be supported”, She said.
She further disclosed that another 1000 chickens and an incubator to enable hatch will be given to various church organizations at each level.
“I believe supporting women with capital will help them come up with the development that will benefit the entire community. Today churches in Mandevu receive 50 check which will be used as seed,” she noted.
And Justine Kabwe ward 21 Teddy Mwaba announced that the programme is ongoing and those left out will be given.
