INSTEAD of harvesting from his crop, a 27-year-old farmer of Choma has been dragged to Court for stealing 378 fresh cobs of maize worth over K350.

This is in a matter in which Justin Muntanga is facing one count of Theft and one count of Assault in the Choma Magistrates Court.

Allegations are that Muntanga stole 378 fresh cobs of Maize valued at K356 from Steward Mulongwe’s Farm.

In the second count, he is charged with assaulting Ladder Mweetwa and thereby occasioning her actual bodily harm.

The alleged incidents are said to have occurred on 16 and 21 March 2020 in Choma.

When he appeared for plea before Resident Magistrate Ethel Phiri yesterday morning, he denied the two charges read against him

Court: Have you heard the charges read against you?

Muntanga: I have heard

Court: How do you plead?

Muntanga: Not guilty.

Court: Court records pleas of not guilty in respect to both counts.

The matter was later adjourned to 24 March 2020 for trial.

Muntanga was remanded in custody.
