TV for sex lands woman in court

A 19-YEAR-OLD woman yesterday denied stealing a plasma television from a man who allegedly refused to pay after having sex with her.

Bupe Kasonde of Misisi compound is charged with house breaking and theft contrary to Section 301 (a) and 272 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

When the matter came up for plea before Chief Resident Magistrate Lameck Mwale, Kasonde denied stealing the TV but pleaded guilty to the charged of escaping from custody.

In the first count, it is alleged that on July 20, Kasonde broke into the house of William Chirwa and stole a Concord plasma Television set valued at K3, 200.

And in the second count, Kasonde is charged with escaping from custody when on July 21, allegedly escaped from Embassy police post in Chawama.

In respect to the first count Kasonde explained that she broke into the house and got the television set because complaint Chirwa did paid her after the two had sex.

Kasonde told the court that she met Chirwa at a bar who later booked her for her services but after having sex he refused to pay her.

She said that led her to break into his house when he was not around and stole the TV set.

With regards to the second count, Kasonde said she did so under the influence of alcohol.

Kasonde said she asked Constable Malupenga, if she could use the bathroom at the Cosmopolitan Mall and when granted permission she ran away.

The matter has been adjourned to August 16, for facts in respect of count two and mention and setting of trial date in respect of count one.
