Teacher jailed for keeping naked photos and having sex with pupil

An experienced music teacher at a Derbyshire school has been jailed for nearly two years for having a sexual relationship with a pupil. Mark Fidler, 49, who was fired last year before his arrest, wept in the dock as he was jailed.
Nottingham Crown Court heard he was working at the Belper School when he started having sex with the teenager who cannot be named for legal reasons.
During their time together she sent him a topless photo of herself and pictures of her in her underwear.
The indecent photos helped lead to his conviction after they were discovered in an office drawer by a colleague. He had been a teacher for 25 years.
The school’s head of music was spotted alone with his victim in the classroom.
When questioned he admitted they had been having sex and that he had bought her gifts including underwear and jewellery.
At Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court in July, Fidler pleaded guilty to one count of sexual activity with a girl while in a position of trust.
He also admitted one count of possessing 13 indecent images of the victim, made up of ten pictures and three videos.
Judge Steven Coupland handed Fidler a 22 month prison sentence. He said: ‘You had been a teacher for more than a quarter of a century and head of music for a number of years. SOURCE: MetroUK
