Barclays ‘blesses, aged, children (Pictures)

BARCLAYS Bank Zambia has donated assorted items worth K10,000 to the aged and vulnerable people at Divine Mercy Home (DMH) in Shantumbu village. 

Head of compliance James Kalambata said the bank looked out for communities where it operated to support them.

Speaking at the donation Mr Kalambata said Barclays Bank Zambia wanted to ensure the communities were developed.

Mr Kalambata said bank’s aim was not only to make money from the community and society, but to support them as well through corporate social responsibility activities and ensure they were managed properly.

“As a bank, we have donated assorted items to DMH such as blankets, mealie meal, sugar, washing paste among others. We are happy that we are here to ensure that everything works well.

“And we support all the works that have been done here so far. We hope that DMH will continue doing what you are doing,” he said.  

One of the beneficiaries, Gertrude Phiri, was thanked the bank for the blankets and the assorted food stuffs.

Ms Phiri encouraged the bank to continue taking care of the aged and other vulnerable through DMH.

“We are ageing and taking care of orphaned children. We are unable to find food because we do not work. Please, continue helping us,” she said.

Tafazwa Matekenya, a grade nine pupil, was happy that the bank had brought for them assorted food stuffs.

Tafazwa thanked DMH for always finding partners to help the children with school materials and other requirements such as school fees, books and bags. 

DMH chief executive officer Martina Mitambo thanked Barclays Bank Zambia for its kind gesture.

Ms Mitambo said the items would benefit the aged who were about 22, 33 orphans and vulnerable children and six babies totaling the 61 people home supported in Shantumbu village.
