Delimitation is for your benefit, officials tells voters

KASEMPA Town Council (KTC) has encouraged stakeholders at the ongoing Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) 2019 Delimitation Programme to fully participate in the exercise as it was for their benefit.
KTC secretary, Tryson Chunga, said the delimitation exercise was vital as it would make it easier to deliver electoral services and development to voters.
In a statement issued to the Sun by KTC public relations officer Mukosela Kasalwe, Mr. Chunga in his welcoming remarks at the 2019 Delimitation sitting in Kasempa yesterday that the creating of new constituencies and wards would promote effective representation of citizens.
Mr. Chunga, who is also the district electoral officer, reaffirmed that it was Government’s desire to see to it that the people did not have to walk long distances to go and exercise their right to vote.
He said this was in line with the home which is “Not leaving anyone behind promoting your right to vote through Delimitation”.
He explained that Articles 58 of the Republican Constitution and Section 21 of the Electoral Process Act No. 35 of 2016, mandates ECZ to delimit constituencies, wards, and polling districts at the National Assembly and Council levels.
Mr. Chunga said the process would be people driven and that no decision would be imposed on them.
The council secretary said both written and oral submissions were welcome during the sittings.
The event was attended by councillors, the council chairperson Mr Stanley Kaindu, and the district commissioner Mr Nsansakuwa.
Others included Patriotic Front (PF), FDD, UPND, MMD and UNIP members, the traditional leadership, and representatives from the church and non-governmental organisations.
