Fourth mobile operator coming to soon-ZICTA

ZAMBIA’S fourth mobile phone service provider, UZI will soon start operating in the country, the Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA) has reassured.
ZICTA corporate affairs manager Ngabo Nankonde said her organization had endeavored to implement the plan of introducing the fourth networking operator.
The authority made the assurance during the on-going 93rd Agriculture and Commercial show in Lusaka under the theme “Embracing Industrial Development”
Ms Nankonde said aside the introduction of the fourth network provider would raise competition on the market and cause a reduction on the rates of the charges on internet and talk time packages.
She said ZICTA would continue to enhance the digital migration plan and create more space for more television stations to bring up more channels and encourage new content writers to come on board thereby creating more employment for the people.
“You know industrial development cannot easily come about minus cyber security, so we cannot ignore the fact that ZICTA would provide cyber security and will definitely come through” she said.
Earlier former Minister of Transport and Communications Brian Mushimba had announced that Zambia’s fourth mobile service provider UZI Zambia would begin its operations after paying for their license.
Mr Mushimba said UZI Zambia paid for its license in September last year after several adjustments by government to curtail barriers and encourage more players in the sector.
He said government had delayed to hand UZI Zambia a licence due to certain conditions set by ZICTA, the implementing agency.
