A MAID of Lusaka’s Kamwala site and service has been charged with maliciously administering poison on the breakfast of her boss which she prepared.

Naomi Muyemba is charged with maliciously administering poison with intent to harm.

Particulars of the offence are that on July 6, Muyemba with intent to harm maliciously administered unknown poison to four slices of bread and fried eggs meant for her employer Petronella Mukumbakwa of Kamwala Site and Service.

When the matter came up yesterday, Chief Resident Magistrate Lameck Mwale allocated the case to another, Magistrate Judith Chiyaika for plea.

It is alleged that on the material day, Mukumbakwa, a manager at TATA Zambia limited discovered a black substance in powder form on the four slices of bread and eggs Muyemba prepared for her.

Mukumbakwa on the same day between 06:00 and 08:00 hours was at her residence preparing breakfast and picked up a dispute with her husband Jonathan Banda.

Mukumbakwa asked her husband if he was going to have breakfast but he refused, claiming that he was fasting.

She then started preparing herself for work and by the time she was done, her maid Muyemba brought her breakfast.

The meal comprised   four slices of bread and fried eggs inserted between the bread.

But because Mukumbwaka was late for work she decided to carry the breakfast to her office

While driving on Chilimbulu Road she removed the launch box so that she could eat the food.

Surprising she noticed some black substance on the slice of bread and fried eggs and immediately stopped eating it and continued with the journey.

After investigations, a similar black powder was found in Muyemba’s small purse.

And when the substance was taken to the food and drugs laboratory at the University Teaching Hospital, it tested positive for poison.

Muyemba was later apprehended in connection with the offence and after being interrogated, she denied the charge.
