The Boma Local Court has put on hold judgment in a divorce case after a man who was taken to court by his wife to end their marriage has disappeared into thin air.

Lucy Mwanza, 37, of Kamwala South sued her husband David Lyangwengo, a businessman of Zani Muone for divorce due to gross misunderstandings.

Mwanza told senior local court magistrate Contilda Kamono that her husband impregnated another woman before they got married and that always brought issues in their marriage.

“Whenever that woman calls him, he would say he wants to marry her also. He started complaining about my daughter who I went with in marriage. She went to plait her hair and went home late. He made it an issue and said he didn’t want her in the house so she went to stay with my sister,

“My husband employed a maid to take care of our child as I was at school. When I came home I didn’t find the maid. My husband told me her child was sick that’s why she hadn’t reported for work. A few days, he packed up his things and left to rent a house. He left me with the child and no money for food,” she said.

She said strangely he maid started going to his house to spend nights with him.

“The church tried to reconcile us but nothing changed. When he got paid I went to ask for money for the child but he twisted my neck and wanted to kill me. I had to bite him for him to let go of my neck,” she said.

She told the court that when she sued her husband for divorce, he got a call out for her and told her he wanted her to get arrested.

In defence, Mr Lyangwengo told the court when his wife was pregnant, she stopped performing her duties as a wife should.

“I’m the one who used to do all the house chores. At first I thought it was just the pregnancy but this continued even after she delivered. I sued her for reconciliation and the court reconciled us. She became worse and started starving me sexually. Days later she chased me from the house,

“One time she went to beat the maid because she suspected I used to flirt with her. She never even had any evidence. One night she came for me and bit my fingers. I went to report to the police but nothing happened because she talked to her brother who is a police officer. She pulled my manhood and wanted to kill me,” Mr Lyangwengo said.

Judgment could not be passed because Lyangwengo had disappeared in thin air.
