With the increased tension between Teachers and villagers over witchcraft activities in Milenge District , the local authority in the areas has called for truce over the matter.
Area Commissioner Kunda Chibilo who has bemoaned the lack of cooperation between the community and teachers at Butimbwe Basic School, has since called on the two parties to work in harmony saying that is the only way pupils who have been adversely affected by the tension will benefit.
ZANIS reports that Mr. Chibilo said this yesterday when he addressed community members and teachers at the School.
Mr. Chibilo says it is saddening to learn that classes are being disrupted at the school due to witchcraft accu-sations which he thought were resolved early this month.
He advised teachers, who have not conducted classes for two days, to desist from rumour mongering saying doing so will not help resolve the situation.
Earlier, Milenge District Education Board Secretary Lameck Lungo said that witchcraft attacks have been dis-turbing classes since last term.
“There is confusion at the school as community members claim teachers are bewitching their children while teachers are also accusing the community of using witchcraft powers to have sex with them at night, “Mr. Lun-go said.
The Milenge District Education Board Secretary has since instructed teachers at the school to resume teach-ing and stay focused.
And Butimbwe Basic School Head Girl Angela Moyo disclosed that some pupils at the school are living in fear as some pupils at the school have gone mad after allegedly being bewitched.
Moyo, who is a grade nine pupil, said the environment is not conducive especially for pupils in examination classes. – ZANIS
