Road works cheer motorists

SOME motorists in Lusaka have welcomed the awarding of the contract for the rehabilitation of the 420-meter stretch on Kelvin Siwela road behind Arcades Shopping Mall.

Motorists have been complaining that the road was in a deplorable state and was a danger to both their lives and their motor vehicles.

In separate interviews, some motorists expressed happiness that government had taken action to work on the bad stretch which they described as a death trap not only to motorists but other road users as well. 

One of the motorists, Felix Mulenga, said the road had been in a bad state for some time and was happy that it was being rehabilitated.

During the rain season, it was worse making it difficult to drive properly. 

“We are happy that this road is finally being worked on. Our vehicles were wearing and tearing down very quickly and the road was a danger to the lives of people,” he said.  

A taxi driver, Chatel Zulu, also said he was very happy that the road was being worked on and thanked the government for hearing the motorists’ cries.

Another taxi driver, Thomas Banda, said the motorists had been wondering why the road was not being worked on.

He said it had been in a deplorable state for some time and now that government was working on it so that business for taxi drivers would be favourable.

“The 420-meter stretch was very rough and bad for our vehicles. We are happy that the road is being worked on,” he said.
