Kalomo head teacher killed

A 59 years old head teacher in Kalomo District in Southern Province has been shot dead by unknown people under unclear circumstances.

Zambia Police Service spokesperson Esther Katongo confirmed the incident which happened when the victim, Benson Muyabi, the head teacher at Monde Basic School, was shot dead by unknown person while returning from drawing water with his vehicle.

Ms Katongo said Mr Muyabi died instantly after sustaining wounds on the back and the head.

“Police in Kalomo, in Southern Province, received a report of murder of Benson Muyabi, aged 59 years, a head teacher at Monde Basic School who was shot dead by unknown person,” she said.

Ms Katongo said, “This occurred on 17th July, 2019 at around 2000 hours at his house at Monde Basic School in Kalomo.”

“Acting on the report, police rushed to the scene of the crime and confirmed the report, and that the same was shot dead at the time he just arrived home from drawing water with his motor vehicle. The same is believed to have happened at the time the deceased was locking his motor vehicle,” she said.

“He sustained wounds on the back and head. The type of firearm used is not yet known,” she said.

The body is in the Kalomo Clinic mortuary awaiting postmortem.
