Sayifwanda arrested in Zambezi

Police North Western Province have arrested former Zambezi East member of parliament, Sarah Sayifwanda for breach of peace in Zambezi district on Saturday.

This was during the delimitation meetings that was organized by the Electoral Commission of Zambia ( ECZ ).

ZANIS reports that North-western province Commissioner of Police, Hudson Namachila confirmed the arrest of Ms Sayifwanda  in the presence of her lawyer.

Mr Namachila said during a press briefing in Solwezi today that Ms Sayifwanda has since been given a police bond up to Thursday next week when she is expected to appear in court.

Police have also recorded six cases of assault, one case of theft and other arrests are yet to be done as investigations are still be carried out over the same matter, he said.

The former lawmaker is alleged to have caused the fracas between Lundas and Luvales during the delimitation exercise in Zambezi District.

Meanwhile, Chief Mwata Ishima of the Lunda speaking people of Zambezi district has expressed sadness that his subjects displayed such misconduct in the presence of their leadership.

 He also explained that he is not against the delimitation process as   coming up with a new constituency will enhance development in the district.

Chief Ishima however, urged the Electoral Commission of Zambia to sensitise the residents about the delimitation exercise to ensure residents are prepared for the programme and reduce misunderstandings. – ZANIS
