THE construction of 9 health posts in Kasempa allocated under the 650 health posts project will be completed in the next one year six months, says Health minister Chitalu Chilufya.

Dr Chilufya told Parliament on Tuesday that what caused the delay in completing the project was a termination of contract for the previous contractor in 2015.

The Minister was responding to a question from Kasempa Member of Parliament (MP) Brenda Tambatamba during the questions for oral answer.

Ms Tambatamba asked the Minister of Health when the construction of nine health posts in Kasempa Constituency under the 650 health posts project would be completed, and what caused the delay.

Ms Tambatamba also asked the minister who the contractor for the project was and what the total cost of the outstanding works was.

In response, Dr Chilufya said: “The construction of nine health posts allocated to Kasempa under the 650 health posts project will be completed within the contract period of 18 months.”

Dr Chilufya said the cause of the delay was the termination of the previous contractor who did a bad job.

“Unfortunately there has been no works until the new contractor Jaguar Overseas Limited of India was engaged in 2018,” said Dr Chilufya

Dr Chilufya explained that cost of the outstanding works was part of the overall contract to complete 201 health posts in North-Western, Luapula, Northern and Muchinga Provinces stood at $15,250,000.

Dr Chilufya said government was expecting all the remaining works to be completed within the contractual period of 18 months.
