Casanova hubby divorced

A LUSAKA man accused of being a Casanova and desiring to marry up to six wives, has been divorced and ordered by court to pay his ex-wife K10, 000 as compensation.
The Matero local Court divorced Dan Chela, 28, of SOS area and ordered him to pay Olipa Bwalya, his former wife, K10, 000 in K300 monthly installments.
The couple was also ordered to share the household property.
Bwalya, 24, of Lilanda Township, told court that Chela married her in 2007 in Kasama when she was only 13 years old. He paid her dowry and had two children with her.
Bwalya told Senior Magistrates Pauline Newa and Harriet Mulenga, Chela stopped providing for the family and begun womanising when they later moved to Lusaka.
She complained that her mother-in-law did nothing to control him whenever she complained but simply said he was like his father who wanted to marry six women.
“He got the household goods and I was shocked to hear that he is married to his own niece,” said Bwalya.
But Chela in defence, said Bwalya left the matrimonial home on her own and took the household goods, his mobile phone and withdrew all his money from his Zoona account.
‘’I don’t know why she left and did not even know where she went,” said Chela.
Asked by the court if he loves Bwalya, Chela said he did not as he was already married another woman.
And Chela’s current wife, Esther Chela, who was also in court, said she was not related to her husband as claimed though they came from the same village.
Passing judgment, the court said the marriage between Chela and Bwalya could not suffice as there clearly no trust between them.
The court further observed that the fact that the couple separated a long time ago and that it has had no conjugal rights for a while, was clear indication that they did not love each other.
