660 suspects jump bail in 2018

SIX hundred and sixty suspects in 2018 jumped bail national wide with Lusaka Province topping the list.
And Minister of Justice Given Lubinda told Parliament on Tuesday that the total amount forfeited to the State as a results of suspects jumping bail was K920, 000.
This was after Lufubu Member of Parliament (MP), Gift Chiyalika, inquired from the minister how many suspects jumped bail countrywide.
Mr Chiyalika also asked the minister how much money was forfeited to the State as a result of people jumping bail and how much of it had been utilized.
In response, Mr Lubinda said 660 suspects had jumped bail in 2018 with Lusaka having the highest number at195, followed by North-Western at 73, Central – 62, Southern – 44, Western – 42, Eastern – 33, Luapula – 27, Copperbelt – 20, Northern -16 and at the bottom was Muchinga with six.
Mr Lubinda also said K920, 000 was forfeited to the State due to suspects jumping bail.
“The forfeited money is part of government revenue and is deposited in the consolidated fund and is accordingly disbursed and utilized as part of the budget process,” Mr Lubinda said.
