FOLLOWING complaints of insecurity and increased crime in Lusaka West’s the Kalundu area, Chilanga Member of Parliament Maria Langa has assured the residents that a police post had already been constructed there and would be operational soon.
Ms Langa, under whose constituency the area falls, told the Sun in an interview, the police building was already complete but only awaiting furniture to start operating.
She said she was aware and concerned about the security challenge that the people in Kalundu faced and was doing everything to ensure that the police post is opened soon.
“The police post will soon be functional. We are trying to acquire furniture for the police post before police officers are deployed there,” she said.
The residents complained that the Kalundu area had become insecure with criminal activities now on the rise.
Recently, a body of a 13-year-old girl, suspected to have been murdered was picked up in a nearby bush, and one resident, Charles Chipikauka, said it was not the first time a person had been found dead in suspicious circumstances in the area.
Mr Chipikauka said the residents were saddened about the situation as police had not been forthcoming in improving security to the area despite their numerous calls.
Another resident, Gina Sakala, said there was need to operationalize the police post soon to stop people dying in unclearly circumstances in the area.
