THE recent thefts of money involving female bankers deserve condemnation, says Non-Governmental Organisations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) executive director Engwase Mwale.

Ms Mwale said that crime was crime regardless of who the perpetrators were.

She said that crime in any form should not be condoned whether carried out by female or male and culprits should be prosecuted and punished accordingly.

“We note with sadness the gender divide that is seen in the reporting of the recent bank related crimes. Clearly, the two cases in Lusaka and Monze point to the fact that the two female bankers were not acting alone,” she said.

She said that it was important for the investigative agencies and the media in particular to give a full picture of all those involved in such crimes to avoid negative gender stereotype.

She said that her organisation wished to implore all working citizens, especially the womenfolk to desist from engaging in such criminal activities.

Ms Mwale said that society had never been built by thieving tendencies.

She said that such acts only worked to rob those affected of their hard-earned resources by a few unscrupulous elements.

“NGOCC appeals to the investigative wings to thoroughly investigate these recent crimes so that all those involved are brought to book,” she said.

She however hoped that such unfortunate incidents spurred all institutions concerned to devise stringent preventive mechanisms to curb the trend.
