Itezhi-Tezhi youths cry for loans

YOUTHS in Itezhi-Tezhi have appealed to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the government to bring loan-based projects as means of empowering them.
The youths made the appeal at a youth empowerment forum organized by ‘A Moment with Them’, a charitable organization in Chief Kaingu’s area recently.
Moment chairperson Olipa Tembo said her organization would continue to provide skills to help youths in different parts of Zambia.
Ms. Tembo told the Sun that there was so much to be done in terms of providing skills that could help people individually as well as in groups.
“We are committed to providing necessary skills to youths who are willing to learn for free and once the skills work for them, then that group or that individual will be added to our team as an instructor to help other groups that need the training,” Ms. Tembo said.
And chairman of the Tazimani Kubota Youth initiative, Mr. Alpha Malarwo said there were many challenges hindering the youths from development in the village and one of them was lack of empowerment.
Mr. Malarwo told the same gathering that there should be more NGOs like ‘A moment with them’ that were willing to give loan- based projects to empower the youths.
“Why I’m saying loan-based projects would work is because people work extra hard to pay back, but these free projects that are given to us in large groups are slow to personal development, so we are appealing to government and NGOs to bring these type of projects,” Mr. Malarwo said
One of the members of the youth group Justin Muyola said what a Moment with Them was doing was good because it provided free entrepreneurship skills that were viable in groups as well as on personal level.
“We are happy with what ‘A Moment With Them’ is doing because their programme is educative and can work for groups or individuals,” Mr. Muloya said.
