GOVERNMENT should allocate more funds to the education sector for the recruitment of more teachers as more schools are being built countrywide, says Zambia Nation Union of Teachers general secretary Newman.

Mr Bubala said the move by government to build more schools in Zambia was most welcome move but that there was need to recruit more teachers.

Speaking in a telephone interview with the Sun, Mr Bubala said government could only deliver in terms of manpower in newly built schools if the ministry of finance increased allocation to education in the next budget so that more teachers were recruited.

And National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) executive director Aaron Chansa said the pronouncement was a welcome move but that government should walk the talk by following it up with action.

Mr Chansa said learners would have more schools hence decongesting already established ones and improve on the teachers-pupil ratio.

He further advised government to construct more schools in rural areas where people had challenges in accessing education.

“This move by government is commended. We hope that this development will be concentrated in rural areas because people in rural areas have challenges in accessing education,

“However government should not only bring more schools but also more teachers and equipment to be used in these schools,” he said.

Meanwhile Mr Chansa has called on government to empower newly upgraded secondary schools with manpower and books.

Mr Chansa said as much as some schools had been upgraded into secondary schools, there has been no change to equipment and manpower.

Recently President Edgar Lungu announced that  the World Bank in conjunction with the Zambian government was going to construct 82 secondary schools in seven selected provinces.

Mr Lungu said schools were being constructed in Central, Eastern, and Luapula, Southern, Northern, Muchinga and Lusaka Provinces. The president said this during the commissioning of Chati South Boarding Secondary School in Kalulushi on the Copperbelt
