Robbers blow safe at Chongwe’s Agora Micro Finance – and haul K171, 000 cash, lap top computer and desk phone

ABOUT K171, 000 cash was reportedly been stolen from Agora Micro Finance Company of Chongwe after armed robbers blew up a safe and helped themselves to the money.
Police spokesperson Ms Esther Mwata Katongo confirmed the theft in a statement made available to the Sun.
Ms. Katongo said that Chongwe police received a report of aggravated robbery which occurred on July 2 around 01:00 hours at the financial lending institution.
“A manager at the firm, Mr Malumo Muyunda reported that five men armed with a pistol attacked a security guard Nicholas Chasha on the material day. After overpowering the guard, they broke into the building and stole cash amounting to K171, 000.00, a laptop and a desk phone valued at K9.000.00” she said.
She said the robbers entered the building through the roof after they switched off the alarm system. Explosives were reportedly used to blow the safe.
Ms. Katongo further said that, the guard had both his legs and hands tied during the robbery while his mouth was stuffed with a Chitenge material.
She also said police were question another security guard who left his point of duty at the time the crime was being committed.
Meanwhile, Mr Muyunda was reported hospitalized at Chongwe District Hospital although Police could however not confirm the hospitalization of the manager.
But a spot check by the Sun confirmed that Mr Muyunda was indeed still admitted to the hospital.
A source close to Muyunda hinted that Mr Muyunda seemed to be depressed and was in a state of shock and the family was deeply concerned about his sudden illness.
