Solwezi youth commits suicide

A TWENTY-FOUR year old youth of Solwezi district North-Western province has committed suicide by hanging himself to a tree with a rope, North Western police commissioner Hudson Namachila has confirmed.

Mr Namachila said the sad incident happened at the weekend around 16:00 hours in Kabitaka Hills Township of Solwezi.

He said the suicide was reported by a friend Taonga Mulenga aged 29 of the same residence.

“My officers received a report of a youth committing suicide that was identified as Jailas Mwando. His friend Taonga said she found him hanging with a rope to a tree,

“The scene was visited by my men who the deceased’s body hanging to a tree near the football pitch with legs touching the ground due to the body weight”, he said.

Mr Namachila said that there were no physical injuries on the body which has since been deposited at Solwezi General Hospital mortuary pending post mortem, adding that an inquiry file has been opened.

Meanwhile a suspected murder case occurred in Kandemba Compound in Kalumbila district in which a Paul Chala aged 42 was allegedly murdered by unknown people.

The commissioner confirmed that Fred Mambwe aged 27 years of same abode, the younger brother of the deceased made a report after he found his brother lying by the road side.

“Kalumbila police visited the scene and inspected the body and discovered that it had a cut on the head, bruises on the face and dried blood that had oozed from his nose””, he said.

Mr Namachila said the body was brought and deposited in Solwezi General Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
