ABOUT 300 bags of maize for distribution to hunger-stricken residents have been received in Chirundu, council secretary John Mwanza has confirmed

Mr Mwanza said the maize was currently stored at Pambazana shed in Lusitu ward.

Mr Mwanza has also appealed to the residents of Machivika, Lusitu and Pambazana to exercise patience while the Zambezi River Authority (ZRA) and the council engaged Saro Company to procure two powerful pumps from India to be used at the Lusitu water reticulation site.

Speaking to the Sun in a telephone interview, Mr Mwanza expressed optimism that the pumps would be installed this month.

He said once that was done all households in the affected areas would receive water.

Mr Mwanza said Saro had been asked to modify some pipes and ball joints to enable smooth flow of water.

Meanwhile Mr Mwanza has warned some selfish marketeers who have put tables in the new market shelter but still trading on the streets to desist from the act.

He said market space was not supposed to be personalized but free to be used by anyone who wanted to trade.

He also advised the Siavonga district commissioner  Mr Lovemore Kanyama to work with the local authority following the latter’s call that the ministry of lands and natural resources should take away land from the council.

Mr Mwanza said it was very immature for the DC to call for revocation of land from the council because of potential of developers.

Mr Mwanza said Siavonga was now privileged to have a vibrant council secretary who had vast knowledge and could give correct advice on land management.

He feared that if the ministry of lands revoked land from the council the district would suffer from serious development setbacks.

Mr Mwanza urged Mr Kanyama to work with the council for it was responsible for giving out sound guidance on development through its planning department.
