PLANS by government to construct a 20, 000 sitter ultra- modern stadium in Mongu have stalled due to wrangles between the contractors and State officials, Vice President Inonge Wina has said.

Ms Wina said as a result, the funds allocated to the stadium might have been diverted to other project.

The Vice President was responding to Mongu Member of Parliament Mwilola Imakando in Parliament yesterday who wanted to know what had happened to plans to construction a stadium in Western Province by PF as promised by President Michael Sata.

“Your Honour the Vice President, the father of PF and Former President Mr Michael Chilufya Sata, may his soul rest in peace, promised the people of Western Province a 20, 000 sitter ultra-modern stadium,

“The site was cleared, there was a big ceremony to mark the ground breaking, may the Vice President update the people of Western Province with regards to this project?” Dr Imakando asked.

Ms Wina  said Government was aware of the promise by Mr Sata to construct a stadium in Mongu, but however could not continue with the project because of wrangles between the contractor and Government officials.

“Madam Speaker indeed the father of PF promised the people a stadium, not only promising, he went there to break the ground for this stadium, unfortunately,  during that time there were a lot of wrangles between the contractors and  Government officials.

“And unfortunately the project did not take off and in the process the funds were diverted to other projects. I am not very sure, but I will investigate what happened to the money given to the project,” Ms Wina said.
