ZAMBIAN league runners-up for 2019 Green Eagles on Thursday evening flew out to Kigali, Rwanda, for this year’s CECAFA Kagame Senior Challenge Cup where they have been invited as guest participants.

Public relations officer Faith Kaira said the Choma-based side arrived in Kigali aboard a Rwanda Air flight at 21:40 hours.

“The team arrived safely in Kigali, Rwanda, last night aboard Rwanda Air which touched down at Kigali International Airport at 21:40 hours,” Kaira said.

The tournament kicks off on July 6, 2019.

Some of the teams participating are TP Mazembe, AS Vita and Gor Mahia.

Eagles play the opening match against Somali side Heegan.

The 2019 transitional ZSL runners-up will be participating in this year’s CECAFA-Kagame Senior Challenge Cup for the first time.

The outing could provide a good platform in readiness for the CAF Champions League next season.

The tournament kicks off on July 6 and will see winners walk away with US$30,000 while runners-up will pocket US$20,000.

The third placed will receive US$10,000.

Eagles are in Group C alongside APR FC (Rwanda), Proline Football Club (Uganda) and Heegan FC (Somalia).

Green Eagles are also Zambia’s representatives in the CAF Champions League after finishing runners-up to champions Zesco United in the just-ended transitional league.
