ABUJA, NAIGERIA – With no stable income and the tough economic times, putting your children through school can be such a challenging task.

Parents often sell their assets or plunge into debt in a bid to ensure their children are schooled and times, even this is not enough.

In Nigeria, Moritz International School has sought to ease the burden on parents struggling to raise school fees by offering an alternative mode of payment — plastic bottles.

Through a partnership with Africa Cleanup Initiative (ACI), an NGO that focuses on sustainability, the school now accepts bottles.

According to CNN, 200kgs of recyclable bottles can earn the parents around K137 which will be deducted off the term’s fee of around K300.

ACI founder Alexander Akhigbe noted that the Recyclers Pay Scheme is providing solutions to Nigeria’s environmental and climate issues and the initiative has already reached more than 1000 children.
