SOLWEZI Municipal Council will remain committed to the socio-economic transformation of the district, Mayor Nicholas Mukumbi has said.

Mr Mukumbi is happy that he can walk with his head high because of the number of activities undertaken so far.

He was speaking during the 2019 second ordinary council meeting in Solwezi.

Mr Mukumbi said the council had responded well to the decentralisation process by working closely with the devolvement ministries’ heads of department.

He said the projects the council had been undertaking were community-driven, which was a key component of decentralisation.

“Solwezi Municipal Council has built and renovated a number of schools across the district under education, built health facilities, contributed to promotion of agriculture through maintenance of roads and bridges that help farmers transport their faming produce to the market,” he said.

Mr Mukumbi acknowledged some bad roads in the district but said the council was doing everything possible to have better roads using meager resources available.

He said most roads in the central business district had been upgraded while others have been spot-on graded using equalisation and ward development funds.

Mr Mukumbi, however, called on the residents of Solwezi to remain patient as the council was working accoding to people’s instructions.

He pledged to continue upgrading some selected township roads to bituminous standards using the debt swap with Kansanshi Mine every year until change in road network was seen in the district
