THE Boma Local Court in Lusaka has ordered a man to compensate the mother of his girlfriend with K8, 000 for damaging virginity and impregnating her in 2017.
This was in a case in which Beauty Njobvu sued John Mtonga to court for compensation.
Njobvu told Senior Court Magistrate George Kaoma that when she found out her daughter, was pregnant she named Mtonga being responsible and who readily accepted responsibility.
“But to date there has been no support from him.
My child was only in grade 9 and I explained to him how he has disturbed her education. I told him to pay me K15, 000 for damage and he refused and said he could only pay K6, 000 of which he still has not paid,”
“The child even turned 2 years and I have been suffering to raise that child on my own. He never followed what we agreed from the time we discussed the issue and that’s why I brought him here. I want him to pay me that same K15, 000 I first told him,” Ms Njobvu said.
In defence Mtonga said he had known the girl since 2015 and started dating her in 2016 and she fell pregnant in 2017.
“I know it’s a must for me to pay and I will pay. I just need time to raise money and start paying,” he said.
The court ordered Mr Mtonga to compensate Njobvu with K8, 000 in installments of K400 effective July 16.
