GOVERNMENT must rehabilitate the burnt Zingalume police post in Lusaka and reopen it because of the high crime rate in the area, a concerned resident has said.

Leonard Chilufya said that crime had increased in the area because of lack of a police post.

The police post was gutted three years ago when it was torched by a mob of angry residents.

Mr Chilufya said some young men and boys had taken advantage of the lack of a police post by attacking and beating people.

He said the residents were moving long distances to seek police services at either George or Matero townships.

“Tulelombako ba President batuloleshepo batwiswiko police post ilya baocele imyaka yakunuma [we are appealing to the President to rehabilitate our police post which was burnt],” Mr Chilufya said.

“Filetucusha sana kaili abaice balipanga ama group baleuma abantu. Nandefye crime naifula elo nga wakwata problem nangu ubushiku kuya kwa George nangula ku Matero ukutali,” he said.

Chilufya said businessmen had regrouped and organised some materials for the rebuilding of the post but that all that was needed was for the government to take up the remaining works to complete the post.

He also appealed to Mwembeshi Ward 27 councillor Kelvin Kaunda and Member of Parliament Lloyd Kaziya to lobby for roads to be done in the area.

He said Zingalume was the only township which had been left out in road infrastructure development.

Mungwi was the only road done so far.
