WOMEN in sport need support for them to excel, says Handball Association of Zambia (HAZ) president Bwalya Banda.
Banda immediately called on women in Zambia to support his girl’s Under-17 and under-19 teams which were currently participating at the on-going International Hand ball Federation (IHF) Trophy Zone VI tournament at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC),
“I think all we need is support from the womenfolk, there’s a misconception that there are no women participating in sport but here we are , we have Under-17 , Under-19 girls teams and they are doing fine,’’ Banda said.
Banda said that at the speed Zambia was moving at in handball, it was safe to assume that the nation would a force reckon with on the African Continent.
He said that at the time when soccer was struggling to have women teams, his association was able to have a team that was leaving a mark in Africa.
Banda said that there was need for Zambians to invest in the sport and that in the next few years handball would be the number one sport in Zambia.
“At the rate that we are moving as HAZ we are a force to be reckoned with because we have quality athletes both in boys and girls.
“When football is struggling to make a womens’ team, we are making a team that is making a mark in Africa, so Handball is a sport that Zambians should invest in. Give us space, in the next five years no sport will be compared to handball.
Zambia is hosting the IHF tournament which has attracted participation from 10 regional nations.
